Tuesday, January 5, 2010 Airports worldwide have implemented new security measures in the aftermath of the Christmas Day 2009 incident involving Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who is accused of attempting to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253 from Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Detroit, Michigan. The BAA, the airport authority of the United Kingdom, announced Sunday that it would add full-body scanners to airports through out the country as soon as practical. The body scanners cost £100,000 (€112k, US$160k) a unit and they will be implemented at all six of BAA’s controlled airports. This came after Prime Minister of the UK, Gordon Brown, said that he was committed to using the controversial technologies. “We’ve recognised that there are new forms of weapon that are being used by al-Qaeda, so we’ve got to respond accordingly. We will do everything in our power to tighten up on the security that is essential,” said Brown…

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 As Tom DeLay’s (Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas), alleged ethical lapses began to dominate American political news stories and the Sunday talk shows, have led some Republican members of the Majority Leader’s own party to question the reasoning for his refusal to account for his actions or resign. Last year, in a glimpse of problems yet to surface, the Republican head of the U.S. House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, or “House Ethics Committee”, presided over three admonitions that included offering to endorse the candidacy of a political lawmaker’s son in exchange for votes on legislation. The ethics complaints were originally filed by Democratic Rep. Chris Bell of Texas on June 15, 2004, and began to heat up in the months prior to last year’s elections. A Texas grand jury is taking a hard look at Delay’s fund raising practices,…

More On This Topic: Cattle Yard Designs Australia The story behind the City of Orlando dates back to the 1838, when it was occupied by the Native American tribes, prior to the arrival of the European Settlers. Known as Jernigan before its present name, Orlando possesses a rich history which spans over the time period of 170 years. It was after a cattleman that Orlando was first known as Jernigan. Aaron Jernigan was the first settler, to establish a permanent settlement o the lands of the present day Orlando. Although the accounts behind the name Jernigan are not disputed, many historians disagree on how the name transferred to Orlando. Majorly believed, the events tell us that Orlando came to be known by this name because of a US soldier, Orlando Reeves who protected his fellow soldiers from a surprise attack by a native in the Second Seminole Wars. This name…

Tuesday, October 16, 2007 With the election campaign just beginning, Australian Prime Minister John Howard has promised AU$34 billion in personal income tax cuts over the next three years. That is on top of $31.5 billion announced in May, and $36.7 billion announced in 2006. The new tax cuts are based on new projections for growth in the Australian economy. The Treasury estimates that the economy will expand by 4.25% in the 12 months to June 2008, up from growth of 3.75% predicted in May. The Government has challenged the Labor opposition to announce their tax policy immediately. “The biggest, boldest tax plan that we’ve seen in a long time is presented yesterday, it deals with participation, competitiveness, building capacity in the Australian economy, and what does Kevin Rudd say? Nothing,” treasurer Peter Costello said. “He better have an answer today.” Costello described the government tax policy as “very responsible”…

Tuesday, June 8, 2010 Yesterday, at this year’s Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), company CEO Steve Jobs unveiled iPhone 4, along with the new iOS 4 operating system for Apple mobile devices. The announcement was long-awaited but not a very big surprise. In April, the technology blog Gizmodo obtained a prototype of the new phone and published details of it online. While introducing iPhone 4, at the annual conference, Jobs started by hinting at the incident, saying, “Stop me if you’ve already seen this.” The new iPhone was praised by Jobs as “the biggest leap we’ve taken since the original iPhone.” It is only 9.3 millimetres (0.37 inches) thick, making it “the thinnest smartphone on the planet”, a 24 percent reduction from Apple’s previous model, the iPhone 3GS. Structure-wise, iPhone 4 has a new stainless steel frame, which acts as an antenna, supposedly boosting its signal reception abilities and possibly…

More On This Topic: Garage Epoxy Flooring Newcastle By Adriana Noton It can be mortifying to drop a load that will not flush. If it happens in at home, it becomes a disaster because someone has to be persuaded to fix this blockage. There are chemical methods available only if one can ignore inhaling nasty chemicals and long-term, accumulated environmental damage. So give three cheers for green ways to unclog a toilet they are the cheapest methods. For lucky people, the floater might park like an ocean liner in a private bay. Resist the urge to plant a cocktail flag in it or hide it with paper, this will worsen the blockage. But if a person is down on his luck, he faces a bowl that threatens to overflow. Turn off the inlet. If the toilet is missing this feature, whip off the cistern lid and push the circular rubber…
